As some of you may already know, my father is dying from heart failure and other health complications.
Sunday afternoon before the Kara run, my mother called and said my father was worried that he wouldn't see me before he died. My sister and I pretty much left for SW Florida an hour later.
Short history:
10 years ago my father had a 'fatal' heart attack and was brought back by EMTs. Complications in emergency surgery and infections caused him to lose his breastplate and be put on the heart transplant list.
About 5 years ago Dad successfully got a new heart, but at a price - the heart was infected with Hepatitis.
Now, Dad is finally dying from CHF (congestive heart failure) with liver and kidney complications from the Hepatitis.
He is still hanging tough - the nurses did not expect him to be still breathing, let alone waking up, talking and trying to pull himself out of bed.
He recognizes people usually, winks/smiles at my sisters and I, but he's too weak to do much else.
He hasn't been able to eat or process any of his pill-form medication, so it's only a matter of time.
I don't know when Noc and I will be back home - Sunday maybe.
I'm pretty determined to stay until the end, but I've already missed a week of work.
Just wanted to let you know what happened to us, and no, we haven't quit.
